I agree. Weren’t they basically saying Thanos was on par with him but also smarter and more tactical, hence the victory? I think that’s the whole reason for the current banner vs hulk story where they realize they need each other. I think. Am I missing something? You’re not missing anything. With or without the Gauntlet, Hulk has never been a serious threat to Thanos in the comics. He has easily dispatched him on multiple occasions. Some contemporary stories attempt to make the two near equals in strength but, Thanos usually still prevails. The Thanos vs. Hulk fight isn’t the best example if you’re trying to demonstrate the Hulk’s inconsistent power levels. I think the OP is just upset that the Hulk loses more than he wins in the MCU. Which is a legit qualm considering how powerful The Hulk is, but in the cases of "Age of Ultron" and "Infinity War," it makes sense. Bruce Banner and Tony Stark collaborated create that Hulkbuster armor incase "the other guy" ever got out of control. And Thanos is on par with Hulk, but strong and more skilled.

Overall yes but, both speed and precision are definitely key aspects in Thanos’ victory over the Hulk. And maybe a little cocky overconfidence in Hulk carried over from his time at Sakaar. Now he is in a crisis of confidence, and hopefully we will see growth in a wiser still incredibly strong Hulk with his confidence restored in the end. I’ve always wanted to see a Banner-Controlled Hulk appear in the movies. Now that I’m getting my wish, I’m not 100% certain of how it will work. Banner is no fighter and, without the Hulk’s endless supply of rage, I have no clue as to how he would fair in a battle with Thanos.

I don't think it will be Banner in control, I think Banner or maybe even Black Widow will help Hulk regain his confidence and really take part in the ultimate resolution of this.

Any way you slice it, the Hulk will have to reassert himself as “the strongest one there is.”

Thanos, The Mad Titan, is the most powerful being in the universe.
