Or, here's a reading of "The Cave" in smaller chunks:

Have yet to read “The Cave” and “The Stone Wall”—on my list! Here’s another from me, though I’m not expecting it to do well; it’s not especially scary, for one thing. Nevertheless.

Thanks, WeirdRaptor. I apologize for continually posting my own stuff here, but I really appreciate your feedback. In this case, it was my first female narrator—um, ever, actually, outside of some long passages narrated by a woman in a third-person story—and I hope I did a good job with her. (I kept reworking that damn ending, too…)

Once upon a time in Hollywood, there lived a great big monster.
All the fairies were very afraid of it.
As the monster couldn't control his magic wand.
That monster was named Harvey.

WeirdRaptor, have you read “ Tommy Taffy”? It’s pretty hard to get through, but it’s well-written and very scary. I just discovered it now—sort of wishing that I hadn’t, to be honest, but for sheer terror it’s well-done.

Reading that story has made me realize that I really don’t like horror, per se. I like the spookiness and the atmosphere, unease and the general sense of the unknown and the numinous, but I don’t like horror, and I don’t like stories that play with my head like that. Which is all probably why my stuff doesn’t do well. Give me M.R. James any day.

This randomly came to mind, and I wrote it up quickly:

Someone who liked “The Rose Garden” wrote a pastiche (at least, with the same style and settings) of my stories there, which was really nice. “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” and all that. On the other hand, his (or her?) story is getting about as many upvotes as mine are, i.e., not many at all.
