Marvel Announces Auction for ‘The Punisher,’ ‘The Defenders’

Marvel Entertainment’s Netflix television partnership, which produced shows such as “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” might be dead, but fans can acquire a piece of the superhero franchise’s history at an upcoming auction.

On Friday, Marvel and Prop Store announced a June auction that will feature a variety of items from “The Punisher” and “The Defenders.” Bidding opens in May though the event, which does not have a specific date, will take place in Los Angeles, fans will be able to bid via telephone or online.

Props expected to be auctioned off include the Punisher’s (Jon Bernthal) vest and skull-clad armor, and a handful of masks from the series’ second season. Several other superhero costumes, including the red Daredevil mask and Colleen Wing’s (Jessica Henwick) katana will also be auctioned off.

That's why I was sarcastically thanking them. They salted the earth to the point of rendering the Netflix shows unusable.

I take the auctioning off of the props as a sort of symbolic break with the series. They certainly had no urgent need to sell these items off, but since they did, that says something to me. Make of it what you will, though.

I guess not. It would be a waste to throw everything they have already done away though.

I don't see it as a waste so much as an ending. Each of those shows had multiple seasons and were, by and large, critically acclaimed. Nothing wrong with going out on a high note (even if a little unceremoniously). You've got to change and adapt to stay relevant in film and television.

Agreed, that's the primary reason why I don't think we're going to get reboots or reincarnations of these particular characters anytime soon. It may be several years before we see them again in any form.
