"Last January, Deadline reported that The Nevers star Laura Donnelly would be joining Gael Garcia Bernal in the Werewolf By Night Holiday special. With that report, Deadline mentioned that there is “No official word” on her character but that she “potentially could be Nina Price, who becomes Vampire by Night.” Naturally, everyone seems to have been running with that, but as you can see by their wording, this appears to have been just a guess on their part. However, I can report exclusively to you now that Laura Donnelly is in fact playing monster huntress Elsa Bloodstone in the Disney+ series. Werewolf by Night has been filming in Georgia and being directed, to both the surprise and delight of comic book movie fans, by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. So now that we know what character Donnelly is playing in Werewolf By Night (and probably other Marvel properties), how might she fit in the greater MCU if at all? It has been widely speculated for a while now that Marvel could be planning a Midnight Sons project what with Blade and multiple characters from the group already in the works or heavily rumored to be popping up soon. Elsa Bloodstone could be one of those characters. She appeared briefly on the team during the Damnation event in the 2010s (according to my best comic book researcher Vin). She was also a part of the Legion of Monsters which Vin speculates about more in this article. In fact, both Werewolf By Night and Elsa Bloodstone were on the same Legion of Monsters team in the 2000s, so could there be a group project being developed? Or a group project that takes a bit from both the Midnight Sons and the Legion of Monsters? It’s possible!" www.thecosmiccircus.com/exclusive-laura-donnelly-is-playing-elsa-bloodstone-in-werewolf-by-night/

Not sure about you guys, but I'm actually hyped about this. Love the old school horror feel of it. Makes me sad that the Universal Monster movie reboot failed.
I hope this ends up being a hit so that we can get more Halloween themed specials/shows/movies in the MCU!

“On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.“ www.disneyplus.com/movies/werewolf-by-night/J1sCDfT3MaDl

LOVE Laura Donnelly. Hope her character doesn't end up becoming puppy chow (like the end of the trailer would suggest she does).

I am most intrigued about Man-Thing, he has been hinted at for nearly 10 whole years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starting with Iron Man 3 but we never even saw him in his full glory till now.
I have both Marvel Essential volumes of Man-Thing's original runs, so him being in black and white doesn't really bother me.

"When asked if the show was a "hard sell at all," Giacchino openly shared that Feige couldn't believe that he actually pitched Werewolf by Night to him: “You know what, it was funny because Kevin [Feige] was talking to me and said, ‘So what would you want to do?’ And I was like, ‘I want to do Werewolf by Night.’ And he looked at me like, ‘Really? Like really? Werewolf–’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s what I want.’ He was like, ‘Wow. Okay, alright. Let’s talk about that.’ And the conversation just kept going, and going, and going, and then, and here we are now." The veteran composer then said that it was a "real gift" to serve as the director of Marvel Studios' Halloween special, claiming that they "had fun" throughout the process: "But it was a real gift to be given something that was different and standalone from everything else that they’ve been doing so, it was also a gift. But it was also terrifying because I was like… I didn’t want to mess it up. I felt like you know there was a lot, even though it was a smaller project, it felt like there was a lot at stake, you know, in terms of what we were doing. So I don’t know, but we had fun.” thedirect.com/article/marvel-kevin-feige-werewolf-by-night-pitch

Social media Embargo lifted. Here's some reactions to the special:
Marvel's new MCU monsters and leads are awesome, as is Michael Giacchino's direction & music as well! The supporting characters are not on the same level, but Werewolf By Night is still a thrilling Halloween special they should keep doing more of. I'm glad they pushed Werewolf By Night to be more horror than originally thought. It's a neat tease of what could be an expansive MCU monster universe. - Rob Keyes (Collider)
The Marvel Disney+ shows have been a bit all over the map quality wise, but Werewolf By Night is easily the best thing they’ve done. Yes even better than Moon Knight (which you all know I loved). Werewolf By Night feels like an instant classic and immediately rewatchable. The fact that the entire production was as practical as possible - from the set, to the costumes, etc made this feel realer than any thing we’ve seen in the MCU. The fact that casual Marvel fans are going to love Man Thing is a bit mindblowing but I can’t wait. Last thing I’ll say about Werewolf By Night is how surprisingly violent it is with its action scenes. Something I think a lot of fans have been waiting for. - James Viscardi (ComicBook.com)
I love Werewolf By Night! The throwback black and white classic horror approach works perfectly for the story and feels so unique within the MCU. It’s an exciting example of how they can push boundaries. The cast are great and I hope to see more of them and of this type of thing. Eric Goldman (Fandom)
Marvel took a big swing with Werewolf by Night and they knocked it out of the park. I love how the campy horror vibes blended with the Marvel style! Gael García Bernal is the perfect actor to play Jack Russell and Man Thing will become a fan favourite! Michael Giacchino didn't disappoint. - BSL
Marvel’s Werewolf by Night is a spooky & moody monster tale w/ beautiful photography & big throwback vibes. Director Michael Giacchino does a great job blending the look & feel of classic horror from the ‘30s & ‘40s w/ amusing MCU touches. Ted is MVP, imo. Fun & different - Erik Davis (Fandango)
Monster hunters with rad weapons, awesome creatures, crazy black and white gore, Werewolf by Night is a love letter to old school monster movies in a tight hour long package. - Germain Lussier (Gizmodo)
Werewolf by Night is the Marvel Studios Monster Mash you've been waiting for! Great Universal Classic Monsters vibes, and surprisingly A LOT of violence for a Marvel title. Michael Giacchino kills it, but Gael García Bernal is a star. FANTASTIC use of Man-Thing. - Rafael Motamayor (Slash Film)
Werewolf by Night is the MCU Halloween treat I was hoping for! A delightful ode to the classic monster movies with MCU-level stuntwork, production design & effects. LOVED the dynamic between Gael García Bernal & Laura Donnelly's characters and oh my, does Harriet Sansom Harris make the most of an especially delicious role. A score AND directing win for Giacchino. Set design, creature effects, fight choreography, and B&W gore are all stellar and he & cinematographer Zoë White know JUST how to photograph them. - Perri Nemiroff (Collider)
Michael Giacchino’s Werewolf by Night t captures the aesthetic of old 40s Hollywood horror but with a Marvel flair. It’s has the right amount of suspense to draw you in and get you terrified. Gael García Bernal is fantastic and Lauren Donnelly is bad ass! - Anthony (The Movie Podcast )
